I led a small team with a UI designer, product manager, and business operator to expand Haoliao from a WeChat mini program to a standalone app. My role focused on UI/UX design iterations, where from June to August 2019, we optimised the product structure, established a design system, and refined multi-version designs. The design was completed in one month, and the app was launched in 3 months.
Our Business Goals
I organised a meeting with the team to confirm our product's business goals, ensuring that the final design aligned with the original objectives and avoided any potential misalignment. From the data that the business analysis offered, we decided to focus on these key areas when redesigning the app:
SPORTS MATCHES INFORMATION
Provide in-depth sports match details, including team stats, lineups, and schedules, to keep users informed and engaged throughout their betting experience.
Deliver fast and accurate live score updates to ensure users stay connected to ongoing events, increasing app usage and engagement during matches.
LIVE SCORE UPDATES
Offer insightful and data-driven betting predictions to help users make informed decisions, encouraging higher bet placements and boosting revenue.
BETTING
PREDICTION
Provide detailed event reviews and analysis after matches to re-engage users, offering valuable insights and driving repeat app visits for future bets.

The Problem
The current sports betting app suffers from poor navigation, repetitive information, unclear presentation of important details, and confusing bet options, resulting in a high bounce rate, low user retention, and reduced bet placements. A user-centered redesign is needed to simplify the experience and boost engagement.
Design Goals
Improve navigation design to help users quickly find the information they need.
Streamline the interface by removing irrelevant information and highlighting the most valuable details, reducing cognitive load and aiding decision-making.
Enhance layout consistency by unifying control styles across the design.
Refine betting methods to provide users with a better overall betting experience.
